Dear students,
Today you will carry on writing and editing your 1500-word final paper original research paper. Please work on your papers outside of class, too, and if you have not done so already, hand in homework assignments B or C as soon as you can.
Homework B be requires definitions of a summary, paraphrase, direct quotation and indirect quotaion, with examples of each. You should also include intext markers in parentheses, and a "Works Cited".
Homework C requires intext citations and a "Works Cited" for several different types of media: a book, magazine, newspaper, website, journal, movie, and song.
Kind regards,
Chris Elvin

Dear students,
Today is your mid-term test. Part one of the test will be to explain a chart or graph. This should take about 20 minutes and you should write at least 150 words. The second part of the test will be to write an essay of over 250 words, and this should take about 40 minutes.
You have 70 minutes to complete this IETLS-style test. Unlike IELTS tests, however, you will be graded only on the best of your two essays, not on the average of your two scores. It is up to you, therefore, whether you wish to attempt both parts, or focus only on one.
Citations are unnecessary, and you may not use a dictionary.
Kind regards,
Chris Elvin
